PProfessor Georgios Giannakopoulos (born Athens, 1959) is the Head of the Department of Library Science and Information Systems at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens. He holds a PhD from the University of Athens and two Bachelor Degrees: one from the Technological Educational Institute of Athens in Library Science and one from Panteion University in Political Science. Since 2010 he is an elected Professor to the Department of Library Science and Information Systems of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens where he teaches Archive Science and Sources in Modern Greek History. He is also Teaching Associate at the Hellenic Open University (Greek History module).

Professor Giannakopoulos moved to the Department of Library Science and Information Systems of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens at the end of 2004 as Associate Professor following a distinguished career as Director to the General State Archives of Greece (elected to the post in 2002), after fifteen years of relevant experience at the Centre of Asia Minor Studies (as Scientific Associate in the positions of Librarian, Archivist, Researcher and finally Assistant Director).

He has held a number of distinguished posts which include: Head of Department of Library Science and Information Systems (between 2006 and 2010), Dean of the Faculty of Management and Economics (between 2010 and 2014) and Member of Education and Research Committee of Technological Educational Institute of Athens; Chairman, Board of the Union of Greek Librarians; Member, Board of the Greek Book Center; as well as various Memberships in International Archiving Committees and Boards.

Professor Giannakopoulos is the author of books and journal articles and the editor of scientific Journals, books, conference proceedings, collective works and albums. He is the Chair of the annual International Conference on Integrated Information (ICININFO) and the Editor-in-chief of the International Journal of the Integrated Information Management.
