Personal Profile

Christos Skourlas is a professor at the Computer Science Department of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece (1989-). He holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Informatics, from the University of Athens. He was with the National Documentation Centre of Greece as an analyst-programmer, and as head of the Systems (1983-9). He was also with the Nuclear Research Centre “Demokritos” as a research assistant (1977-82). Christos Skourlas is head of the lab “Data, Information and Knowledge Management (InfoDat_KM)”. He participates as a coordinator and/or key researcher in European and national funded research and development projects. His research work is published in international journals and conferences proceedings.

In the framework of the ESPA – Digital Convergence programme, the project titled “New Digital Services at the TEI of Athens: Services and Digital Educational Content for students with special needs and hard-of-hearing students.” (Coordinator C. Skourlas) was funded and services are offered to the disable students through the PyLes page.

Research Interests

His research interests are in Databases, Information Retrieval, Knowledge Management, Cross Language Information Retrieval, Personalisation, Medical Informatics, Assistive Technology for Disabled Students in Higher Education, Pervasive and mobile computing, and security.
